The Valsesia area
The Valsesia territory borders south with the hills of Gattinara and north with the mighty Monte Rosa. It overlooks Valle d’Aosta on the west and the great valley occupied by Lake of Orta on the east.
Along the shores of the Sesia River, which flows through the entire province of Vercelli, one can enjoy both mountain sports and leisure time relaxation or simply visit enthralling cities of art such as Varallo. The most characteristic destination to visit in Varallo is the Sacro Monte: declared Patrimony of the UNESCO world heritage, it is the most ancient of the Piedmont and Lombardy Sacred Mountains (end of XV century).
In addition to the Sacro Monte, also worth mentioning are the Collegiata of San Gaudenzio and the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, a national monument, inside of which it is possible to admire one of the most important artistic proofs of Gaudenzio Ferrari’s works: the "Storie della vita di Gesù" fresco.
Just 100 metres from Residence Vista Sesia is the Villa Becchi wellness centre, Valsesia’s largest wellness site.
The lakes
A short distance separates Varallo from the two most important lakes of the area, Lake of Orta and Lake Maggiore. Lake of Orta is characterized by stunning landscapes and picturesque villages, but its major attraction is the island of San Giulio: palaces, mansions, courts and lush gardens.
Lake Maggiore extends over the regions of Piedmont, Lombardy and Switzerland and its main points of interest are the three Borromeo islands: Isola Madre, the largest with a luxuriant garden, Isola Bella with the baroque style Borromeo Palace and its Italian style garden, and Isola Pescatori, the only inhabited of the three islands with a small and lovely ancient village.
Just an hour drive from the Residence is the town of Arona, famous for the San Carlone Statue and also for its shopping centre. Shops, shop windows, bars and restaurants follow one another along Corso Cavour, the main street of the city, and along the lake promenade where visitors can enjoy a cocktail or taste the local cuisine specialities.
Milan and Turin
The cities of Milan and Turin can be easily reached in one hour drive. Milan is the world centre of fashion, design, new technologies, art and tourism. The heart of the capital of Lombardy is Piazza del Duomo with its cathedral, but just as famous and renown worldwide are Teatro della Scala, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie which hosts Leonardo’s Last Supper (Cenacolo), the high fashion “Quadrilatero”, the Triennale and the international exhibition of the Salone del Mobile (Furnishing and Interior Decoration Exhibition). Turin is the capital of automobiles, cinema, television, industry and literature. The unquestioned symbol of the Piedmontese capital is the Mole Antonelliana, home to the National Museum of Cinema. Other relevant destinations within the city are Palazzo Reale and the Egyptian Museum, while outside the city borders is the Basilica of Superga, the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi, the Valentino’s Castles, the Palace of Venaria - UNESCO world heritage. Turin also offers many opportunities for shopping and entertainment, the most important of which is the Lingotto mall.
The area around Varallo Sesia is full of typical products to be tasted.
Of the famous Valsesia are the miacce, a sort of sweet or savory piadina to be filled as desired, while in the alpine pastures of the valley it is possible to find typical cheeses and salami.
A half hour drive from the Residence you can visit the cellars of Gattinara and Ghemme and taste their wines.
Moving towards the provinces of Cuneo and Asti you will enter the Langhe region, famous all over the world for truffles, PDO cheeses, but especially for the wine production: the famous Barolo.
In winter, at just 40 minutes from the Residence, ski lovers can reach the Alagna ski resort which is now part of the Monterosa Ski district – 180 km ski runs and 33 ski lift installations.
Definitely worth mentioning is Mera which offers 30 km of skiable area with 16 ski runs. Monte Rosa also offers several peaks and refuges for lovers of ski-tourism and excursions and many frozen waterfalls to climb in winter.
Summer is perfect for trekking, hiking, rock climbing, as well as rafting, kayak, hydro-speed and canyoning to be enjoyed on the Sesia river. This water course is also great for fishing lovers, thanks to the large amount of fish its waters offer.
